PureVPN Review (2023)

PureVPN logo

PureVPN is one of the oldest and most recognized VPNs in the market. It’s been in business since 2006, and is headquartered in Hong Kong. The company claims to be ‘the world’s fastest VPN service’ and to have the largest global presence of any other VPN.

PureVPN features

The company manages and hosts its own network and DNS hardware, which means that information is kept more secure with them than the average VPN. The service also includes unlimited data transfer and a split-tunneling feature so that users can select which data actually goes through the VPN connection.

With access to 2,000+ self-managed servers across 180 different locations across the world, PureVPN is one of the fastest VPNs. Plus, it offers a wide range of protocols, torrent support, two-factor authentication, secure FTP access, and IPv6 leak protection.

PureVPN pricing

PureVPN - 1 pricing

While PureVPN has no free options, a three-day trial is available for $2.95

It’s important to note, however, that paid plans are some of the most affordable in the industry:

  • Their monthly plan is $10.95/month, billed monthly
  • Their annual plan is $4.08/month, and billed annually for $57.60
  • Their 2-year plan is $2.88 a month, and billed every 2 years for $69.12

All plans, with the exception of the 3-day trial, come with a 7-day money-back guarantee.

PureVPN customer support

PureVPN has a wealth of documentation available to help with everything from getting started to troubleshooting. There’s no phone-based customer support but their live chat customer assistance is available 24/7. It’s important to note that their chat service is powered by LiveChat, which isn’t the most secure means of communication. This is something that should be carefully considered prior to signing up.

Email support is also available, and response times are typically under an hour, which is some of the fastest in the industry.  Unfortunately, however, no phone support is available.

What’s lacking

PureVPN isn’t one of the fastest VPNs in the market and connectivity is unpredictable at times. What’s more, the company follows an oxymoronic no-logs policy. It makes a strong claim to not to maintain any logs related to a user’s online activity, but maintains records of each user’s connection and bandwidth.  This is a contradictory policy, and may be a deal-breaker for businesses seeking total confidentiality of their online activities.

In addition, PureVPN blocks torrents on most servers including all UK, USA, Canada, and Australian servers, and there’s no zero-log Socks5 proxy to separate torrent traffic from other Internet activity.
